SUMMARY:RSVP for a tour of the State Capital by Andy Erstad
DESCRIPTION:Our very own Andy Erstad brings a particularly unique perspective to the Idaho State Capitol. As Chairman of the Idaho State Capitol Commission—and the Commission’s only licensed architect—Andy has been involved with the Capitol since 1998, when the Commission was created to develop and oversee the master plan for the building’s restoration, renovation, and long-term preservation. His architectural expertise and firsthand involvement in the extensive restoration and expansion project that culminated in the Capitol’s rededication in 2010 give him an unusual depth of knowledge about both the building’s history and the decisions behind what visitors see today. As we tour the Capitol, Andy can help connect the architecture, history, preservation efforts, and practical challenges of maintaining this historic building as the working “people’s house” of Idaho.\n\nOn October 22nd, we’ll have our usual meeting during the first half hour, then walk over to the Capitol. The tour will take at least an hour in order to cover all the important highlights and will run past 1:00. If you need to leave early, that’s OK. Because Andy needs to provide the Capitol with an accurate headcount, please email Allison (gilbreaths@gmail.com) by Oct 1st to reserve your spot (and that of your guest if applicable).
