Project 60

Mr. Dietrich spoke on December 4th, 2008. He presented of the challenges and opportunities that our current economic environment is creating for our state including both a slowdown in new business interest in relocating to Idaho, yet the increasing interest of international companies, energy, high technology and manufacturing and distribution companies to take advantage of positive opportunities in the state. There has been a recent increase in the number of companies evaluating opportunities with the state of Idaho with 26 companies currently in the process of making decisions. "Project 60" was discussed which encompasses creating new business opportunities in Idaho that will create quality jobs in Idaho and increase our Gross Domestic Product from $51 to $60 billion. Several challenges were also noted including connecting our skilled workforce with appropriate business opportunities, developing research that results in practical business applications and developing transportation and information technology infrastructure that will encompass our rural state and support this initiative.
