Hulls Gulch Seedling Watering
Several Rotary Clubs were represented during our most recent trip into the foothills to water seedlings in Hulls Gulch.  Most are thriving but thirsty, so we're glad to deliver water to them.  Thank you Laurie Zuckerman, Ken Howell, & Bernadine Marconi!  Our next watering is scheduled for Saturday, September 7th at 8 am.
Lunch Program - August 29th
Jerry Schroeder returned to the piano.  Dwight Pond gave the invocation.  President Kevin showed he was full of hot air when warming up the crowd with "Three Things" about hot air balloons in recognition of Spirit of Boise.
Jason Billester invited Tom Payu, who happened to be Phil Brubaker's neighbor in Florence, OR & a fellow Rotarian there.  Small world!
Dwight Pond brought his son Kevin.
Kevin Allen hosted Gabriel Stein, who found us on the internet & is considering opening up a business in Boise.
Happy Dollars
Professor & Newlywed Scott Learned was happy about his eventful week.  Chuck Clark, Jerry Schroeder, Shane Bartlome, Richard Davey, Ken Howell, & Marcia Wing also donated generously to help end polio!
Bill Agler & Jerry Schroeder were back together for a powerful rendition of The Battle Hymn of the Republic.  One of our guests commented how much he enjoyed it.
Classic Bill
Our Speaker - Jason Billester, Boise Rescue Mission
Our own Jason Billester told us how he came to join Boise Rescue Mission & their service to our homeless community.  There are between 2,500 & 3,500 homeless citizens in the Treasure Valley.  The Boise Rescue Mission has served them for over 60 years.  The organization has men, women, & children shelters in Boise & Nampa, as well as a new Recovery Lodge in Boise.  Stats & facts:
  • BRMM provides services to 67% of the homeless population across the Treasure Valley.
  • Transitions: Over the last 6 years, more than 500 people each year have transitioned out of homelessness.
  • Guests: On average, 500 guests stay at a Rescue Mission facility every night. (*200 women & children, 300 men)
  • Food: On average, BRMM serves 1,000 hot meals per day. (*So far this year: 98,000 safe nights of shelter and 197,000 hot meals)
  • Clothing: BRMM gives away 6,000 items of clothing per month.
  • Jobs: 35%+ of our guests are gainfully employed.
  • BRMM receives no government funding, and remains 100% supported by our community and private donations.

Better Friendships Socials
Last year Todd Fischer taught us how to make sushi, Donna Jacobs held a beer & cider contest, Dick Smith made guacamole & margaritas, and John Davis smoked ribs.  Let's keep the good times rolling!  If you have a yard, home, or place of business that's great for entertaining, please contact Todd Fischer or Kevin Allen.
Committee News
After attending their meeting on Monday, President Kevin gushed about the all-star team that is the Firkin Frolic Committee:  Fred Reed, Katie Marconi, Molly Guenther, Leann Arkema, Beth Markley, & Dirk Manley, to name a few.  The meeting included Stacy of Boise Beer Buddies & AG Mike Markley.  Go ahead & mark February 13th on your calendar.  You'll want to be there.
