Mode Lounge
We all know someone who should be in Rotary.  Invite that person to learn about Rotary while enjoying drinks at the Mode Lounge this Thursday.  Low-key & fun, our club leaders talk about the many benefits of being a Rotarian.  Contact David Riffe at

Thursday, November 21st
This means a ton to the kids!  It's more than handing out dictionaries.  We spend time visiting with the kids & showing them how to use their new books.

Three Things - Mystery Rotarian
Here were the clues:
1) As a 4th grader, I attended a special arts program called "Company 7" for artistically gifted students.
2) Played competitive soccer through high school & won a state championships in the U17 division.
3) According to my 5th grade teacher, I was supposed to use my skills as a disc jockey, accountant, or architect.
Who was our mystery Rotarian?  Scroll to the bottom of the page to find out.
Happy Dollars
Rotarians were very happy & gave generously:  Molly Guenther, Jeff Leedy, Rourke O'Brien, Rich Demarest, Jerry Schroeder, Vern Gentry, Kevin Learned, Gary Mahn, James Slover, & Bea Black.
Our Speaker:  Bea Black, Bea's Camino Adventure
Bea took us through her journey on El Camino, the way of St. James.  She offered many helpful tips to have a safe & enjoyable journey.  First, pack light.  Bea was able to get her entire 2-week wardrobe into a small bag.  It helped that she traveled in late spring when weather was favorable.  Also, many places don't take credit cards.  Bring a card with a PIN to get cash at ATMs.  Rather than packing walking sticks, it's easier to buy them there.
Bea showed us her Pilgrim's Passport, which can be stamped in places during your journey.  In cities & villages along the trail, one can find the Camino icon & yellow arrows to point you in the right direction.  Bea told us about "Dia das Bruxas," which is Witches Day on May 1st.  Yellow Portuguese brooms were placed on most homes to protect against bad spirits (must be done before midnight on April 30th).
As one can imagine, there were beautiful views, rich history, & friendly people, making it a worthwhile adventure for most anyone.
Rake Up Boise
Rake Up Boise checks all the boxes of a good service project - it serves people who really need our help, it includes friends & family, & it's a lot of fun for our members.  Thanks in large part to our Service to Communities Director, Ryan Erstad, Rake Up Boise 2019 was a huge success.  We cleared 4 properties on a gorgeous sunny morning.   Dick Smith brought donuts & cider while Laurie Zuckerman made sure the Rotary logo was featured on high-visibility vests & a flag.  Many thanks to our volunteers!
