What a Week!

Laurie Zuckerman rallied over 150 volunteers to plant seedlings at the Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge.  Rotary, Rotaract, & Interact clubs from all over the Treasure Valley participated on a beautiful Saturday along Lake Lowell.  The story was covered by KIVI-TV with our own Bryce Whetzell being interviewed.  https://www.kivitv.com/news/rotary-clubs-plant-new-trees-at-deer-flat-national-wildlife-refuge

Bill & Linda von Tagen hosted 20 people in their home for Zugfest on Wednesday.  We enjoyed bratwursts, beer, & toy trains.

On Thursday we heard from new Boise State President Dr. Marlene Tromp, who gave an enthusiastic presentation about the future of BSU.

Three Things - Mystery Rotarian
Here were the clues:

2) Sang the role of the father (baritone) in the West Coast premier of a children's opera called "Pigs is Pigs."
3) Worked for the CIA & Department of Justice.

Happy Dollars
Our happy & generous Rotarians included Marcia Wing, Ken Howell, Russ Strader, Dave Silva, David Bennion, Laura Mulkey, Jerry Schroeder, & Kevin Learned.  We're moving ever-so-close to polio eradication.

Our Speaker:  Dr. Marlene Tromp, Boise State University President

President Tromp started her presentation by sharing that her father had polio, so she very much appreciated Rotary's mission to end it.

According to President Tromp, local schools are working more closely together than they ever have before.  Boise State continues to develop into a research university that produces new knowledge & advances how we understand the world around us.  BSU is among the most innovative schools in the country & is ranked 42nd in that category.  At Boise State, they don't focus on how it's always been done.  They focus on how it can be done better.

In appreciation for her visit & leadership at Boise State, President Kevin inducted President Tromp as an honorary member of our club.
