Our Speaker:  Peter McCullough
Program Mgr, Boise Materials Management
Peter spoke about the City of Boise's Curb-It Program, which has increased the waste diversion rate to over 40%.

Curb-It's fundamental purpose is to ensure discarded materials are collected, transported, & processed.  They strive to achieve this utilizing environmentally responsible and sustainable waste management strategies.

About 46% of Boise's waste is organic.  Their program works to reduce the amount that goes to the landfill & make use of it.  Since June 2017, they've collected over 40,000 tons of organic material.  96% of Boise households participate in the program.  Their composting site struggles with plastic contamination, mostly in the form of plastic bags & tennis balls.  Residents can get FREE compost from 2 sites.

Peter got into detail about other recycling efforts including plastics, orange energy bags, glass, hazardous waste, & general trash.  Their department is continuing to explore local & regional recycling options.
