Notes From the October 29th Club Meeting

Happy Dollars
  • Wendy Shoemaker offered a gift in honor of former Rotary Club of Boise member Lisa DeDapper who recently passed away.  Lisa's obituary can be found here
  • Bruce Mills was happy to be celebrating his 37th wedding anniversary, and their son's wedding earlier this week.
  • Laurie Zuckerman was $6 happy, giving a penny for each tree seedling Rotarians collected and will soon plant.
  • Ken Howell gave in memory of Lisa DeDapper, a wonderful person and a fellow College of Idaho alumnus. Lavern Gentry offered up a gift in her memory as well.
  • Kevin Learned was happy to see how Tom Wilford was having Mary Glynn mysteriously appear and disappear from his screen (the magic of zoom backgrounds!).
  • Todd Fischer was happy to be able to virtually attend the Big West Institute (formerly Zone Institute) this week, and enjoy the great Rotary speakers.

Visiting Rotarians and Guests
Two new Rotary members attended:  Patty Burnham, who was a Rotarian in Annapolis and is happy to join our club now that she has moved to Boise; and Kevin Johnson, a dentist who recently relocated to Boise from Sandpoint has filed his Rotary membership paperwork. Mike Markley was also visiting as our Rotary Assistant Governor, and Tom Wilford's wife Mary Glynn Wilford popped in and out of the scene.

Willow Lanes Tree Transplanting
Due to rainy/snowy weather, this event was rescheduled to Tuesday, November 17 and Wednesday, November 18, between 4 and 5:30/6-ish. Feel free to drop-by anytime -- even if you can only stay for a few minutes to put a couple of them in the ground.  They'll love your LOVE!

At the Willow Lanes Athletic Complex. Drive through all parking lots to the end near the Boise River. Bring: face mask, gloves, shovel, coat.  If you forget -- no worries. We've got extras that are sanitized.

RSVP to R5400.ES@gmail.com optional. If you do, that's great.  If not, no worries.  We're just delighted with everyone who can make it.

Last Week's Program
Our speaker last week was Callie Zamzow, Co-Ceo of Zamzows, who shared a little about the history of the company and how it got started.

Callie spoke about the process of maintaining a healthy soil and how vegetables like spinach might have fewer nutrients than they're supposed to depending upon the soil in which they're grown. She also answered a number of questions from members about lawn care.

PUT THIS IN YOUR CALENDAR
Have you missed a meeting because you can't find the zoom link? It's the same from week to week. Put it in your recurring calendar listing so it's handy! https://zoom.us/j/96000274800

As always, if possible, please name your profile and consider turning on your video while in the meeting. It helps us ensure security (no Zoom bombers), and helps you engage with your fellow Rotarians.

Membership
IMPORTANT NOTE: For prospective members who sign up while we're meeting remotely, the club will waive the one-time membership fee and the community benefit charge (which, while we're meeting remotely, supports meals for Interfaith Sanctuary), email Membership Chair Richard Davey for more details.

More About Your Membership
While we are meeting remotely, we will continue to include the standard meal charge of $77.34 in our bi-monthly invoices, only now it will be called "community benefit," to reflect where the money is really going. When we cannot meet over meals, your payment helps us keep our lease on the meeting room and storage space, and also benefits our community (most of our meals are donated to Interfaith Sanctuary). This all enables a seamless return to our in-person meetings once it is safe.

For those who continue to pay for this community benefit thank you.

If you are not able to catch a live zoom meeting, email president@boiserotary.org for a link to a recording of the meeting later.
