World Polio Day
October 24th was World Polio Day.  President Kevin spoke about Rotary's ongoing efforts to rid the Earth of this horrible disease.  For Happy Dollars, he hoped to raise enough to vaccinate at least 100 children.  By the end of Happy Dollars, Kevin announced that we'd be able to vaccinate at least double his goal....but that wasn't the full count.  After tallying pledges, we raised $971.  Combined with 1st quarter PolioPlus dollars, we've ensured that 774 kids will never contract polio.  And when Rotary meets its $50m goal to earn a 2-to-1 match from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, we'll effectively TRIPLE our reach.
Todd Fischer, Deborah Bail, Ryan Erstad, & Manny Liu earned End Polio Now pins for their $100 donations!  Other generous donors included Dwight Pond, Russ Strader, Vern Gentry, Diane Minnich, Fred Reed, Gary Gunther, Rourke O'Brien, Wayne Schneider, James Slover, Bruce Mills, Bill von Tagen, Karl Kurtz, Dave Silva, Linda Stevens, Molly Guenther, Ray Ryden, Laurie Zuckerman, & Dirk Manley!  And if you put bills into a brass bowl & I missed your name, thank you for your contribution!
Dr. Marlene Tromp, Boise State University President
If it's been a while since you've attended a lunch meeting, we hope to see you this Thursday as we hear from Boise State's 7th President, Dr. Marlene Tromp.

Three Things - Mystery Rotarian
Here were the clues:
1) One summer in college, I worked 12 hours a night, 6 nights a week in a pineapple cannery.
2) One time on a date, I took an ocean ride on a catamaran.  My date didn't know how to operate it, flipped it, & it took a while before I was found & pulled from the water.  Almost one less Rotarian!
3) I got a hole in one on 11/11/01 on the 11th hole, conclusively proving that black magic is involved in golf.
Who was our mystery Rotarian?  Scroll to the bottom of the page to find out.

Mystery Rotarian:  Judge Deborah Bail
Judge Bail was one of the first female members of our club & is celebrating her 30 year Rotary anniversary this month.  She was Club President in 2014-2015.  President Kevin thanked Deborah for trusting him with an important position on her board.  Her guidance & inspiration helped him for his own run as Club President.
