Join us for food, fun, & service at our last Rotary meeting of the decade!  For your convenience, the party will occur during our normal meeting time.  You're welcome to bring family & friends.  We'll play a game, sing carols, & perform a service project to benefit our homeless citizens.

Tom Stitzel is leading the charge to raise money for the Salvation Army.  Please sign up on the sheet at your table or email Kevin Allen (kevinallen4545@gmail.com).  If you can't ring bells, you can always drop a check or cash into the red kettle at your table during a lunch meeting!

Gift Idea for Christmas...
No need to stress about Christmas shopping this year.  We have the perfect stocking stuffer!  Go to firkinfrolic.org to buy tickets for only $15/each!  This early bird price expires after Santa finishes his deliveries.  Firkin Frolic tickets are the PERFECT GIFT for...
  • People who are hard to shop for
  • People who prefer experiences over material gifts
  • Clients, associates, & employees
  • Parents who need a night away from the kids
  • White elephant gift exchanges
  • The weird in-laws you only see at Christmas
  • You if you hate wrapping gifts
  • And of course....ANYONE WHO ENJOYS DRINKING BEER!  (It's Idaho, folks.  Either you love beer or know someone who does)
This is limited edition beer brewed exclusively for this event.  Receiving tickets to Firkin Frolic will help a Grinch's heart grow three sizes...plus two.

There was a sports-theme during Happy Dollars with Ron Gambassi (Utah Utes), Chuck Clark (Oklahoma Sooners), Ken Howell (Formula 1), &  David Bennion (Boise State Broncos) happy for their favorite teams.  Tim Bower was happy for a game of pickleball he played.  Bruce Mills, Richard Davey, & Vern Gentry also generously gave money to fight polio.

Our Speaker:  Paris Cole, CEO Truckstop.com

Paris spoke about his background & the work of Truckstop.com.

Paris is an Idaho native who graduated from Caldwell High School in 1994 & earned his degree in accounting from ISU in 2000.  He joined Truckstop.com a few years ago & currently serves as CEO.

Truckstop.com is a freight matching service that connects carriers with shippers.  Founded in 1995, it saw over $150 billion of volume posted through their system last year.  With over 55,000 accounts & 410,00 daily unique truck loads, Truckstop.com owns over 90% market share.  They employ over 550 people in 7 North America offices.

The trucking industry is highly fragmented.  There are over 3.2 million trucks on the road with the average fleet size of “1 truck per carrier.”  Truckstop.com’s platform allows its clients to connect with one another, compare rates, mitigate risks, manage payments, & boost efficiency.  The company has enjoyed 24 consecutive years of growth & profitability.  They’ve recently secured investments from Iconiq Capital, an equity firm backed by Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Dustin Moskovitz (Facebook), Jack Dorsey (Twitter, Square), Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn), & Jerry Yang (Yahoo).  They plan on continued long-term growth.

Which Foundation?

Our club works with three primary foundations:
  1. The Rotary Foundation
  2. Greater Boise Rotary Foundation
  3. Rotary Club of Boise Foundation
It's easy to confuse them but they serve very different purposes.  Katie Marconi, our club’s Foundation Director, gave us information on The Rotary Foundation & the good it does in the world.

In 2018, nearly $415m was raised for The Rotary Foundation.  It is consistently ranked among the best, earning the “World’s Outstanding Foundation” award in 2016.  Funds are well distributed between Rotary’s six areas of focus, with nearly $152m going to disease prevention & treatment last year.  Over 1,400 global grants were approved in 2018-2019.

In District 5400, we raised $338,800 last year.  Our club accounted for nearly 11% of donations, leading all clubs at $36,839.  Our per-capita giving of $277/member ranks well above the national average.

Individual recognition at The Rotary Foundation comes in many forms:
  • Sustaining Member ($100+ per year to the Annual Fund)
  • Paul Harris Fellow ($1,000 total contribution)
  • Multiple Paul Harris Fellow (additional $1,000 contributions)
  • Paul Harris Society Member (contribute $1,000 annually)
  • Benefactor (include the Endowment Fund as beneficiary in your estate plan)
  • Bequest Society (commit to future gift of $10,000)
  • Major Donor (cumulative donations reach $10,000)
  • Arch Klumph Society (cumulative donations reach $250,000)
  • Legacy Society (promise a gift of $1 million+ to the Endowment)
Our club has:
  • 92 Paul Harris Fellows (67 are multiple PHF)
  • 6 Paul Harris Society Members
  • 19 Benefactors
  • 23 Bequest Society
  • 9 Major Donors
Katie recognized members who’ve recently earned Paul Harris Fellow pins:
  • Betty Munis +2
  • Bill von Tagen +2
  • Jerry Beto +2
  • Vern Gentry +5
  • Todd Sawyer +8
We also recognized Shirley Fields, who was in attendance with her daughter Diana.  Shirley is the wife of the late Dick Fields & she has continued giving to The Rotary Foundation.  She earned a Paul Harris Fellow Pin +3.  Her & her husband are Paul Harris Society members, Major Donors, & Bequest Society Members!

Thank you Betty, Bill, Jerry, Vern, Todd, & Shirley for your generous contributions.
