Jason Shuey has more than 20 years of fire service experience in the Treasure Valley, beginning his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Melba Fire Department. He went on to serve with the Star Fire Department from 2005–2006 and the Caldwell Fire Department from 2006–2015, where he served as a Driver Operator, Captain, and Training Officer.
Jason joined the in 2015 and has now served the Boise community for more than 11 years. During his time with Boise Fire, he has served as a Senior Firefighter and Driver Operator and was promoted to Captain in the Training Division in 2025, where he helps develop and prepare Boise firefighters for the operational and leadership challenges of the profession.
Jason’s commitment to firefighters also extends to more than two decades of organized labor leadership. He served as President of Caldwell Firefighters Local 1821 and has continued that work with Boise Firefighters IAFF Local 149, where he currently serves as President. His union career has included collective bargaining, firefighter benefits, staffing, health and safety, and building productive relationships between firefighters, City leadership, and elected officials.
Throughout his career, Jason’s focus has remained consistent: serving his community, taking care of firefighters and their families, and leaving the fire service better for the next generation.
