Jason counsels and represents U.S. and non-U.S. companies from an array of industries – including information technology,
financial services, investment management, fintech, virtual currency, and energy – in sanctions-related internal investigations,
voluntary self-disclosures, and enforcement matters; specific license and comfort letter applications; transactional due diligence;
day-to-day compliance counseling; and litigation expert witness engagements.
He is the former Chief Counsel to the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign
Assets Control (OFAC), where he oversaw the legal design of new economic sanctions measures and led
the legal review of all major enforcement, compliance, licensing, regulatory, and litigation actions across
OFAC’s more than 35 sanctions programs. In the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Jason
led the legal development of OFAC’s Russia-related sanctions program, including overseeing the legal
advice for the issuance and implementation of more than a dozen new sanctions-related executive orders,
directives, and determinations. Prior to attending law school, he served as Deputy Press Secretary to
Nobuteru Ishihara, a Member of the Japanese House of Representatives and Cabinet Minister, in Tokyo,
Japan.
