Boise School District Mental Health Initiatives

Andrea Geraghty, LCSW-Social Work Supervisor, Boise School District

Andrea Geraghty has worked as a social worker supporting youth and families for 20 years in a
variety of settings, including community mental health, residential treatment, juvenile justice,
and schools. Her career has been dedicated to strengthening systems of care that promote
student well-being, family stability, and equitable access to support services. Andrea’s
experience across diverse settings has given her a deep understanding of how collaboration
between schools, families, and community partners can create lasting positive outcomes for
young people.

For over half her career, Andrea has served within the Boise School District, where she provides
both direct support and leadership as a school social worker and supervisor for the district’s
social work team. In her free time, Andrea can be found reading to complete the annual Ultimate
Book Nerd challenge through the Boise Library or birding with her son and brother.

Jason Shanks
Counseling Supervisor, Boise School District

Jason Shanks brings over a decade of leadership in school counseling and mental health to his role overseeing counseling services in the Boise School District. He holds master’s degrees in both Educational Leadership and Counseling, and is committed to a student-centered approach that honors student voice and advocacy. With a deep dedication to wellbeing and safety, Jason has played a pivotal role in tracking district-wide wellbeing data through student surveys, steering targeted responsive actions to the data, and co-leading the district’s suicide prevention initiatives prioritizing enhancing mental health literacy among all staff.

Beyond his professional life, Jason is an outdoor enthusiast enjoying rafting, fishing, running, and quality family time with his wife and two children.
