Dr. Gary Brandecker-The keys to longevity

Dr. Gary Brandecker graduated from Georgetown Medical School in 1988 and completed his residency training at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1992, and has been board certified in emergency medicine since 1993. Coming out of residency he worked for nine years in Wyoming, where the next closest (but much smaller) hospital was 100 miles away, so he experienced rural medicine firsthand.

Gary and his wife, Karen, moved to Eagle, Idaho, in 2001. He worked in the various emergency departments of St. Luke’s Health System for 18 years. In addition, he has been working part-time in the lifestyle medicine department caring for outpatient cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients. Many of the cardiac rehab patients are recovering from cardiac surgery such as valve replacement or coronary artery bypass graft surgery or have had coronary artery stents placed. Gary is also board certified in lifestyle medicine, which involves working with patients to make changes that prevent chronic disease and improve quality of life, rather than relating to a physician’s lifestyle. Gary is currently a full-time faculty member at Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he has been since the school was founded in 2018.
